Description

A crooner singing Watermelon Sugar? Not necessarily what you'd expect. But that’s exactly why this version exists. The original is, of course, by Harry Styles. Not your typical crooner, sure, but there are interesting parallels between him and my original crooner inspirator: Robbie Williams. They both started in a boy band, became even more successful on their own and they are both awesome entertainers.

And the truth is: some pop songs swing hard. Watermelon Sugar is absolutely one of them. I once posted a short video of me singing it on TikTok, saying: “Maybe a crooner’s not supposed to sing this song… but I’m doing it anyway.” The response was overwhelmingly positive. One comment said: “It doesn’t matter if a crooner should sing this… YOU should sing this.” And that’s when I knew for sure: this song fits me. So we turned it into a big band version that’s fresh, playful, and full of personality. A modern pop hit, with a crooner’s soul. That makes it a perfect fit for this album.
