Description

I’ve told this story many times before, but my love for crooner music started when I was 7 years old, sitting in the backseat of our family car, on our way to Spain for a vacation. Fifteen hours on the road, with Robbie Williams’ Swing When You’re Winning on repeat. Out of all the songs on that album, Something Stupid was one of my favorites.

Later, I found out the original was sung by Frank Sinatra and his daughter Nancy. That only made it more special. And now, years later, I get to sing my own version with the incredible Lara Louise: an incredible Dutch singer I discovered thanks to my A&R Manager Menno Timmerman, who found her on a jazz playlist on Spotify. We reached out to her, and it turned out that even though she lives in San Francisco, she’s originally Dutch like me! I’m so happy and honored to sing this song together with her. Our version is a swingier than the original, but just as full of love. A modern wink to a classic duet and a musical souvenir of long road trips, old heroes, and new connections.

Something Stupid

Song lyrics

I know I stand in line, until you think you have the time

To spend an evening with me

And if we go someplace to dance, I know that there's a chance

You won't be leaving with me

And afterwards we drop into a quiet little place

And have a drink or two

And then I go and spoil it all

By saying something stupid like "I love you"

I can see it in your eyes, that you despise the same old lies

You heard the night before

And though it's just a line to you

For me it's true, it never seemed so right before

I practice every day to find some clever lines to say

To make the meaning come through

But then I think I'll wait until the evening gets late

And I'm alone with you

The time is right your perfume fills my head

The stars get red and oh, the night's so blue

And then I go and spoil it all

By saying something stupid like "I love you"

The time is right your perfume fills my head

The stars get red and oh, the night's so blue

And then I go and spoil it all

By saying something stupid like "I love you"

I love you

I love you

I love you
