Description
Most people on this planet will probably know this as a dance hit by Rihanna. But when I first heard the Jamie Cullum version, I was absolutely blown away. It made me realize what the greatest crooners of all time do best: They interpret a song. Jamie Cullum reinvented Don’t Stop The Music, taking it back to the basics. No synths or drum samples, but just pure, real music, which makes you listen to the song and lyrics in a way you never did before.
Jamie’s version was a turning point for me. It made me realize that keeping the great crooners alive doesn’t mean sticking to the classic songs; it means embracing new ones in a crooner way. So with my beautiful horn arrangement and added guitar solo, I made my own interpretation of Jamie’s version of Rihanna’s original. Not to repeat the trick, but to carry the story forward.
The result is a high-energy, big band version that shows crooning isn’t a thing of the past. It’s alive, it breathes, it swings. As long as you dare to make it your own.
